May is Williams Syndrome Awareness Month, and we need your help to enrich the lives of children and families!
Williams Syndrome is a rare and virtually unknown genetic condition caused by a spontaneous deletion of genes in approximately 1 in 10,000 births.
We recently learned about Williams Syndrome after our granddaughter Jaycee was diagnosed. Children with Williams Syndrome have many wonderful gifts including a charming and endearing personality and an affinity for music. At the same time, they have medical problems like cardiovascular disease, cognitive delays and learning disabilities that require ongoing monitoring, medical care and therapy.
The Canadian Association for Williams Syndrome (CAWS) helps children and families like ours, providing support from initial diagnosis, through the school system, with skills training, adult employment and housing.
There’s two ways you can help!
- Stock up on Perfectly Raw – and – 5% of all May food sales will be donated to CAWS. Funds are required to support wider awareness, research and treatment to help minimize and overcome the most troubling aspects of Williams Syndrome. Funds also help to ensure our children can realize their full potential, and contribute to greater understanding, acceptance and inclusion within our communities.
- Support Renee Baldwin’s Walk for CAWS. This year we will be participating in our first Walk for the CAWS – the happiest walk in Canada, June 8 at St Vital Park in Winnipeg to raise additional funds for a cause that is now very dear to our hearts. You can make a donation via Canada Helps. Your donation is deeply appreciated! You can also make a general donation to CAWS here. All donations over $20 are tax deductible.
